Stroop Colour-Word Test
Cognitive Assessment Tool
Instructions
Say the COLOUR of the word, not the word itself.
The correct answer is RED (the colour of the ink)
Respond as quickly and accurately as possible. Your reaction time and accuracy will be measured.

Clinical Application
Stroop interference — the delay caused by incongruent colour-word pairs — can be prolonged following concussion, making it a useful tool for assessing cognitive function and tracking recovery.
Purpose
This test measures cognitive processing speed, selective attention, and executive function — specifically the ability to inhibit automatic responses.
What It Assesses
- Processing speed
- Selective attention
- Cognitive flexibility
- Response inhibition (frontal lobe function)

Understanding Your Results
Stroop Interference is the difference between your average response time for incongruent trials (where the word and colour don't match) and congruent trials (where they do match). A larger interference effect indicates greater difficulty inhibiting the automatic reading response.
